The purpose of Christian Education at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is to guide in the learning, understanding, and living of our faith by providing educational opportunities for people ages 3 through adults.
Sunday School classes meet each Sunday from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. during the months September through May. A list of the current Sunday School staff can be found here.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a two year program for 7th and 8th graders. The program has five parts: Sunday School, weekend retreats, monthly instruction with Pastor Frank, weekly instruction with the two adult leaders, and parental instruction at home. Confirmands usually affirm their baptism on Pentecost Sunday.
First Holy Communion
To prepare our young disciples to receive the Lord's Supper, Pastor Gore conducts three classes for second graders and up during lent. Children completing all three classes receive Holy Communion for the first time on Palm Sunday.
Vacation Bible School
The 2012 VBS was entitled "Amazing Desert Journey." Children age 3 through grade 3 took part in one of our three programs designed for the developmental needs of various ages. They learned Bible stories focused around life in Jesus' day. Under Pastor Gore's guidance, children in grades 4 through 6 completed mission projects within the community. For the second year, Vacation Bible School was a joint venture of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the St. Mary/St. Francis Cabrini Parish.
Vacation Bible School serves as a model for nurturing young disciples and for sharing our faith with others. VBS is open to all children in the community, with older children volunteering as helpers. Directors Amy Gallagher, Alyson Clark and Amy Sanford encourage all to register early with their friends for next year's program.
